I noticed something nice in the recent builds of IDEA 8 - if you mention a class that doesn't exist/isn't known to IDEA, one of the intentions next to "create class" is "Search maven..." which opens a dialog that displays packages found from in maven repositories - by default it filters packages that contain the classnames that look like what you had entered - selecting 'add' places a <dependency> element in your pom.xml.
Jetbrains sure are making a compelling reason for me adopt Maven now...
