Hi all, I also had Dia in mind after thinking a while about it. I have used it for my diploma thesis but I remeber that it was not to stable on Windows.
May I promote a tool of our institute: FreeStyler http://www.collide.info/index.php/FreeStyler/ Completely written in Java, allows for free hand writing, supports modelling and simulation with several plugins, extendable, free and did I mentioned it is written in Java? :) Runs for sure on Windows and Linux, for Mac you unfortunately have to modify the freestyler.sh to match the bash syntax. All the best and keep on the best podcast ever!
