the only thing i know about Kent (other than some dirty limericks) is that that David Turner did Miranda etc there -right?
so that's how Dick came to program in miranda (as per Odersky interview "ahh Miranda!" says Odersky like he was hearing of an old mutual friend -i liked that bit) so what is Dick going to say when some FP devotee from Kent says; "Never mind Scala -how have you NOT had an interview with Rich Hickey yet about Clojure?? Surely java programmers need to hear about a pure functional language designed to exploit the JVM for massive concurrency. Scala schmala! -these people need to hear from someone with a Scala critique that is deeper than 'gosh its complicated'. And they need to hear about the real problems that await them if they don't learn to do anything smarter than poking away at a big blob of state in java." Well, someone might. -and now this.. an FP devotee from Kent had his brain so functionally bent he could travel in time to when he was nine but the present he couldn't prevent -have you ever tried to refactor a dirty limerick until it begins "an FP devotee from Kent" Turns out not to be easy, especially with a limited appreciation of functional programming -please post a better one here (hint: monads and gonads hold promise of course) pete F --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
