1. Who would be Sun? I mean, for starters they make hardware Hardware! -and spend how much? on a huge team working on something that zillions bank on, but don't expect to pay for --and is kind of orthogonal to their stated business
and are facing tough times in tough times and get criticised for not moving java along, but when they do take some serious initiative and throw people at something to make it happen -they get grief because doing so has an opportunity cost so, if Casper is right, and if things have got so bad that they are reduced to politicians who can't even talk straight for fear of scaring a market who are only prepared to hear good news -then it seems to me that people get the software they deserve 2. re Sherod's concerns about Adobe sponsorship of RIA weekly. It does have an odd feel, but if Sun can buy themselves a slot, and presumably anyone else (google might have to pick up the tab for ajax) -and they are up front about it, then hey -its free as in lunch Much more worrying are the secret deals being done with Drunk and Retired -all those blatant product placements that turn up for high cholesterol food, certain whiskeys, foreign holidays, straaange bowel purging programs, zombie flicks, more high cholesterol foods, frequent flier programs, cheese-burgers, lebowski endoresements,one zillion handy osx apps, halo helmets and a leg of a transformer.. the list goes on and on -I'm sure if i looked at the site, i could find a million of them.
