Hi Marc, Sorry if this sounds like a shameless commercial plug, it isn't suppose to be. I just wanted to share my experiences of these types of events.
I teach my performance tuning course on the Greek island of Crete. I love teaching the course there. After a day digging about in the bits of an application it is very nice to go out with like minded people and enjoy the area. We often end up in places like Kalathas beach. There is a very nice open air beach restaurant there. People can swim, eat, drink, it's just a great way to end the day. I encourage people to bring the family along. The course is held in family friendly good quality hotels in very safe surroundings. I've gotten great feedback from everyone that has attended. That said, it is a hard sell because you can hear the bosses saying, a course on a Greek island.. yeah right! But its priced so that it's cheaper to come to Crete than take the course on a London High Street. And quite frankly a lot more enjoyable! So as wacky as these things sound, I think there is actually a lot of value in them. Maybe even more than going to traditional training.
