Hello!

The recent quarter was bad for Sun (e.g., hardware revenue down
13.8%), but Java revenue was up 47% at $67m (http://
www.theregister.co.uk/2009/01/28/sun_q2_earnings/page2.html).  My
guess is that Microsoft started paying for bundling their toolbar with
the JRE downloads. MySQL revenue was up 55% at $81m, though this
number is inflated somewhat by "Infrastructure" revenue (http://
news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10152448-16.html?
part=rss&tag=feed&subj=TheOpenRoad), and Solaris / network
management / virtualization revenue was down 29% at $42m.

I think it shows that Sun starts to monetize Java and MySQL (though
Java revenue goes up and down a lot). Still, software together is
less than 6% of total revenue, so it's got some way to go to pull Sun
out of its financial misery.
