I used QFtest on several projects for automating Swing GUI tests.

I would suggest its probably more powerful / advanced than most other
swing ui test systems, but it also depends if you need the power....
For example if you want to run End to End business cases where you
really exercise and test the gui this is the tool for you. If you want
to test if a textfields background colour changes when you type an
invalid value look at something simplier. Also It's not free.
