If you go to JavaOne, you must be familiar with Metreon, which sits atop part of Moscone North (and around which the keynote line wraps in the morning). If you go to JavaOne every year, you've probably noticed how the building gets more and more empty each year. It wanted to be a sort of an urban geek Disneyland (heck, it used to have a "The Way Things Work" attraction on the fourth floor), but it didn't work out.
Well, scratch two more tenants: the Sony Style will be gone by J1 and the PlayStation store will be in its last week or two of operation. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/02/18/BUJ215VEJ0.DTL I thought it was hilarious last year to discover that a collection of crane games (aka, "UFO catchers") had filled the second floor space originally occupied by Microsoft's first-ever retail store. With Metreon's legacy of failure, it's not unreasonable to think that the building, not the tenant, was the failure there. Ironically, Microsoft just announced last week that they are going to launch a chain of retail stores. Seriously, if you need shopping or a decent food court, skip the Metreon and walk another 3 minutes to the Westfield: either cut through Bloomingdale's on Mission, or walk up 4th to Market (across from Virgin and Apple) and turn left. --Chris --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
