I should have metioned it is based in Australia and the majority of visitors are Australian so it's possibly a similar situation here.
The dealings I've had with our audience would suggest they don't fall into the "high-tech" category so are probably likely just to use whatever comes with their hardware which I think explains the high IE usage. In any case, I definitely cannot afford to overlook IE6 yet...as nice as it would be to dump support for it. :-) Vogella, I agree that because your website has a technical focus it is more likely to attract a crowd interested in using a browser like Firefox.
