Hi all-

After listening to the posse talk about Scala enough, and reading
through the benefits of Scala as another arrow in the quiver of tools,
I decided to give it a try. I'm a big Eclipse user for Java, C++, and
Ruby. Since they have a Scala plugin, I decided to use that. I'm okay,
I guess, with having fewer of the niceties that the Java, and even the
C++ plugins afford (method suggestions, etc.), but what is really
troubling to me is that it seems to be extremely flaky about when it
will properly compile something, and when it will properly run
something. I'll get an error when trying to run a Scala program like
"Selection does not contain a main type", do a clean and run it again,
and it works.

I admit I like the immediacy of an IDE, especially when I'm learning a
new language to provide a certain amount of hand-holding. Whereas I
can write a C++ or Java program in the sand on the beach and be
certain it will compile, I'd like more feedback from the toolset
initially, and with the Scala plugin I feel like I can't tell whether
I'm doing something wrong, or if the plugin has "quirks" that I am not
well versed in and that's why the program doesn't work from one run to
another.

So I'd like to know, what do people use to write Scala programs right
now? I'm looking for a good, solid Scala implementation that will
allow me to become comfortable with the language.

Thanks,

Tachoknight
