Just say NO to monthly fees and NO to services that can go away or
change policies.

1. Buy 2 nas boxes like the zyxel nsa-220 (can be had for $150 on ebay
since newer plus model is out). They support raid since it has 2 bays
but we're more interested in having 2 boxes here. See below.

2. Put nas 1 in brother 1's house, with drive A for brother 1's
storage and drive B for brother 2's backup. Configure nas to
automatically archive or synchronize from drive A to nas 2's drive B
at Brother 2's house.

Low power, quiet, always on, cheap. Nas also does torrent downloads,
showrss broadcasting (fetching of shows), light duties as web server,
mysql server, wordpress, and more. Easy to setup and use. SSL is
supported.

The nsa-220 plus supports 4tb each or 2tb in raid mode. Just add more
boxes if you're a digital pack rat. If you want a fast migration, do
the initial full archive or sync with both boxes next to each other
then separate them (it'll do incremental).

You get fast access to pictures and video at home. Can also watch tv
shows when you want without having to manully find/download each
episode (showrss/broadcasting feature). You get remote access at dsl/
cable upload speeds. Heck, I even had my Android phone automatically
upload new pictures/videos to my nas at night (can we say background
services AND multitasking).

Fixed cost. Even cheaper if you're not a digital pack rat and can use
older/smaller hard drives lying around.

Rob

ps. amazon has the newer 220 plus and a new single drive model that is
cheaper.
