When it comes to raw speed for the transfer I strongly recommend getting a drive with an esata connection. Makes it as fast as an internal sata drive. Of course you need to have a esata plugin. With a laptop you might be out of luck, with a desktop you can stick in a esata card (that comes with the drive) or use an existing connection..
