I think it would be a good podcast as well. I used to work at the PTO
and got to know some of the examiners. I have two issues. One patents
only help the people that have the cash to enforce them. If I come up
with a better mousetrap, history may credit me with the invention, but
while I'm alive, I can only enforce the patent if I find a law firm
willing to take a percentage of the license fees as payment. And if I
can't find one all I get out of it is a bibliograpHy entry on some
thesis paper somewhere.

Second, knowing some of the examiners and the rules they have to
follow, many of them don't want to issue the patent. Especially in the
area of software and ideas. But, the process is so rigid they
basically have a checklist. If all items are checked off, they have to
issue it. Which is good and bad. Good in the fact nobody can predict
how influential an invention will be (radio) and bad that u get some
pretty stupid ones issued (meaning of the middle finger)
