Anyone who's been around the mobile phone industry for a while has been patenting every possible innovation which is or isn't patentable, but that doesn't really matter. Its a matter of mutually assured destruction in the sense that the only losers are upstarts that want to penetrate into the market because they have no counter-sue ability, and the only winners are patent trolls that don't have products to be counter-sued about.
