Scala is definitely coming along here in leaps and bounds.  We have a plugin
available for the simple build tool, and I've managed to integrate scala 2.8
code into eclipse-based android plugins (complete with Proguard file
shrinking)

I don't know of any commercial users or major open-source projects as yet,
but some of us are definitely using it for prototypes and "hobby" apps.
