Talking with a couple of friends a few days ago I discovered they are
doing a lot of code katas in these last months. They told me they feel
that they are improving their skills as developers, but to be honest I
am very skeptical about it.

I really cannot catch how to rewrite the same piece of code again and
again until you remember it keystroke by keystroke can make you a
better programmer. IMHO it is just a useless and boring to death
exercise. And watching a video of somebody else performing a kata
(there are tons of such videos all over the internet) seems to me even
more boring and pointless.

But I also know that there are people who I have in great
consideration like Bob Martin (uncle Bob) having a completely
different opinion:

Am I missing something? Is there somebody else who tried to do a kata?
If so do you find it of any utility?
