Yes, it's true.

XMLVM (http://www.xmlvm.org/iphone/) works with bytecode, not source code.
Could even use it with JavaFX if you wanted.

(though I preferred the F3 name, JavaFX sounds like something I'd use in
post-production, nothing more than bells and whistles...)
