Well, this thread seems to have done a fantastic job of highlighting what I consider to be the truth here: Different strokes.
I'll continue to use my meta-rule about style guides: * When joining an existing project, grin and bear it, i.e: Don't whine about style, and just copy theirs. If this is too jarring you can play around with auto-format, especially when you just need to read for now, and not change / add anything. Once you understand it all you can always undo the auto-format and start hacking. * When creating a new project and the core contributing team at that time hasn't already agreed on a style beforehand, go with whatever style the majority of the team is most comfortable with, by merit (i.e. a committer that does more work gets more say). -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
