I was listening to ep. 3 of Build and Analyze<http://5by5.tv/buildanalyze/3>,
a podcast hosted by Marco Arment (of Instapaper) and Dan Benjamin.

They mentioned that iOS 4.2 introduced a new compilation system to make
dealing with multiple OS versions easier (Arment called the preceding hacks
"messy").

Android fragmentation is always a big topic, but it made me wonder if Apple
isn't starting to realise they'll face similar issues soon and is building
tools to combat it. While it'll probably never be quite as big or complex an
issue as in Android, I wonder if iOS won't end up with a similar system of
declaring what your app needs and only showing users apps compatible with
whatever OS/device combination they have.

As I don't use any iOS devices, maybe this is already the case? How is this
handled currently? Could fragmentation become an issue for iOS?
