Linux is compartmental. Linux is a Unix emulator. Linux is only a kernel, not an operating system.
A full operating system would be Debian GNU Linux. BSD is actually real Unix. You cannot take BSD apart, all of its pieces are designed to work together. Both Solaris and Apple OS are BSD derivatives. Linux, you can remove almost any piece (i.e. glibc is optional) making it very flexible, but less stable and less fast. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
