There isn't anything that prevents an app developer from releasing an iphone, ipad and ipod version in the same release. We have several apps on our machines that works on my iphone and my wife's ipad. Other apps have never released an updated version of their app for the ipad, and my wife just runs the program in 2x mode. There are other apps (too many in my opinion) that think they can charge 2x -- one for each version. Those are the ones that piss me off and I'll avoid them if I can!
