I've followed this for a while. Back in August 2010 Apple hired a guy that worked with NFC since 2004 as "Product Manager Mobile Commerce" (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/08/16/ latest_apple_hire_could_signal_nfc_capabilities_in_future_iphones.html).
