That IMHO is by far the largest benefit; it's easier to learn new
concepts when expressed in a way that focuses on their essence,
instead of the accidental complexity of some language/platform/
environment.

And since we're use to writing programs to do things, the particular
case of learning a new language offers a built-in motivation.
