I just listened to episode 344, about Java modules. I didn't hear a lot about either Jigsaw or OSGI, but I heard a lot of stuff about Linux RPMs, Ruby modules, and Perl modules. I'll admit to not having all that much experience with any of them, but as I understand things using them is pretty much equivalent to taking a Java jar library and adding it to your Java server's classpath, requiring that some admin, whether it be you or some other poor schlub. Am I misunderstanding this? Is this REALLY what we want in Java?? I know I don't. I lived through Windows dll hell and do NOT look forward to doing that again. Looking forward to being educated though, thanks for doing what you do.
