Sorry, I might have jumped the gun, but it really read like an
oxymoron to me.

Right, can't disagree there. What often scares me about pro-Spring
people, is their inability to see the cost of adding layers of
indirection. I guess the problem is that no one agrees on what is
simple or what is complex.
