I see you logic; depends on the language I guess. My reference to
conservatism has to do with Sun/Oracle not having revised their
guidelines since 1999:

In the modern Internet age of computing, a dozen years seems like a
lifetime - hardware is superior and inexpensive, while software is
increasingly complex. What dinosaurs uses space for indentation for
instance? ;)
