You can access the app store on a rooted iPhone.  Apple largely
ignores the jail-breaking phenomenon other than patching the holes
they keep finding.

I think bringing attention to these issues is generally a good thing.
It caused Apple to reverse its decision to ban non-Objective C
frameworks.
