Hey all, I see that Dick Wall and Bill Venners have announced their next public Scala training week in San Francisco in early August. I don't know if any of you have been on the fence, but if you have, maybe my experience can urge you to jump into Scala training.
Dick and Bill did a training class in Ann Arbor a few weeks ago. The class attracted some local people as well as folks from New York, New Jersey, and Washington, DC, as well as from Chicago. I probably missed some. It was a VERY good experience. I've been playing around with Scala for the past few years, but this class helped to fill in a lot of gaps. I chose to attend the full 5-day session, and I'm really glad that I did. I think that the first 3 days ensured that everyone had a common base to be able to discuss the advanced topics in the last 2 days. As usual, the discussions that occur are a huge added benefit to a group training event. And discussions of emerging Scala idioms and patterns is quite useful. Hearing tips for how to bring Scala into an organization that's averse to change (e.g., through testing) is very valuable. One of my employees attended the training as well. He's mainly a .NET/ C# programmer. but he's dabbled in a little Ruby as well. He hadn't done Java since college, but that didn't cause him any problems in the class. And now, he's going to attend the Programming Summer Camp in Crested Butte this summer too! Here's the link to Escalate's next training session: http://www.artima.com/shop/stairway_to_scala And to the Programming Summer Camp: https://sites.google.com/site/programmingsummercamp/ Enjoy!
