I agree with this, but I think you understate just how much repetitive "training" can actually help with producing creative items that are ridiculously well done. Consider those carvings you linked, I guarantee you the person that did those (and, ironically, the tomato cuts) has done more than they can count. The technique isn't learned in isolation, but by practice. (I think there are countless books and such on this. Likely mostly horrible, but the point is I'm not trying to be revolutionary here.) The outcome is highly creative with a lot of skill, but the technique is likely very rigorous and was strengthened by training.
