The big buzz in consumer GUI toolkits is obviously web, HTML 5, and iPhone/Android. Java FX, along with Swing and Silverlight are simply not relevant in that space.
But for those of us building niche workstation GUI applications, how good is it? I've used it some, but I'd like to hear from people who have looked at FX 2 in more depth than I have. How is the runtime performance? How is the startup speed and web browser friendliness? How is the development ease of use and flexibility? Is there any reason to start a new greenfield project with Swing? Or is JavaFX 2 a generally superior replacement? If I look on github, there is very little JavaFX activity.
