if guys like Cyanogen could not grab the pieces and throw on a custom
device? Google reaching safe haven is not the full story here, more
seems at stake.
... and once it is turned into a part of OpenJDK, stuff such as Cyanogen
could be safe under the OpenJDK umbrella. This would imply to change the
license from ASF to GPL (+CPE?), but I don't see it as a big trouble for
Cyanogen. I'm sure it would be more complex than this, but my point is
that a legal agreement could be made so everybody is safe. Oracle wants
to make money and would not make money out of Cyanogen stuff, so it
would have not interest in killing them; OTOH the OpenJDK licensing
would guarantee Oracle that nobody else can make money out of Cyanogen
stuff without eventually paying a fee.
