Slightly off topic - There is a slow and completely impractical way to run Java non-graphical applications on a pre-1.5 JVM within a browser. That is via JavaScript PC Emulation. Some time ago I ported JPC to JavaScript - JsPcEmulator <http://sourceforge.net/projects/jspcemulator> via GWT. It can boot the Sanos <http://www.jbox.dk/sanos/>, which is just enough of an OS to run Java. My more recent port of Dosbox- JsDosbox<http://sourceforge.net/projects/jsdosbox/> might also run java if combined with Japheth's HX DOS extender with Win32 PE file format support (again with the same limitations).
