java3d.java.net is the home of the latest Java3D implementation. The project is out in the community now. The VRML loader seems to be split of into a library on its own now as an optional download.
The impression is that VRML hasn't had a lot of success since the last time I touched it... right? In any case, the VRML files to use are generated by an external tool, so I don't have much chances... at least for now. Thanks for the clarification.
