I've had good experience with Jemmy.  Although it's a generated code
dogs breakfast underneath, it worked fine last time I was in Swing,
probably 4 years ago now.

Also check out WindowLicker. I haven't tried it, but it's written by
Nat Pryce of JMock and GOOS fame, so has promise.
