We don't need to go back far in time to see an example of a good half baked
solution: Java 7.

It was supposed to be much more ambitious but Oracle chose to ship earlier
with less features. I think it was a great call, and not just for technical
reasons: it restored faith in the evolution of Java and convinced the
community that Oracle was finally putting Java back on track after years of
inactivity from Sun.
