Try somthing like this:

String[][] fullNames = new String[3][2];

// fullNames[i] = nameEntered[i].split(" ");
// or combine the above 2 lines of code
fullNames[i] =
JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter first and last
name of a family member.").split(" ");
}
