Aaron, I've also noticed that my NetBeans 6.5.1 is slow when creating/opening projects (stays longer at 25%) since I've installed latest Java Updates for OS X / Intel (64 bit) on my MacBook. According to NetBeans forums, changing JDK would help only for 64 bit platforms: http://forums.netbeans.org/topic13558.html. Upgrading to latest NetBeans 6.7 release candidate would fix similar issues on 32-bit platforms.
