Hi Rachelle

What you have been told regarding throwing over a straight left leg is 100% correct.
If you are able to do this then I would say that your left leg is not planted too far
forward. It is important to have a solid base (left and right leg plant) over which
you can then apply force to the javelin. As far as the plant of the left leg is
concerned it must happen almost simultaneously as the plant of your right leg.
Therefore concentrate on getting the left leg to the ground asap after right leg
contact and keep the left leg straight.

As far as your PB. Our season has just been completed. At our regional champs the
U17 title was won with a distance of 38m (about 125 feet). second place was 102 feet.
I believe this girl then threw 129 feet at the national champs last week and finished
5th. I have not heard yet what the winner threw. Will post when I get that info.

Hope this helps. Do you access the javelin discussion forum on the site
www-ct.sprintlink.co.za. There is great information being exchanged on javelin
throwing.

Hey,
I'm a female sophomore in high school and track just started about a month
ago. Our track team has this guy who tries to come out once a week and work
with us, and he says he threw in college, but he seems to be giving me
condridicing information about some things people have told me and I don't know
which to believe. He is the first real coach I might say we've had, and I don'
t exactly know all the mechanics of it. My main condictrons are when you plant
your foot (I'm right handed, so my left foot) it is suppose to be way out in
from of my body, then I go over a stiff planted leg and come to a stop by
slowing your self down on the other leg (my right). My two questions are, is
the going over a stiff leg correct, and why do I feel so awkard with my planter
foot so out infront of my body, like it is two spread appart.

I was also wondering if there are any other female throwers on this lists and
about what they throw. Cause I consistantly throw 103 ft + and I am winning
every time in our little school league. My personal best is 109 ft 5 in. By
chance do any of the guys know if that is a good mark? Thanks.

                                                        Rachelle
