Thanks, Bob and Rick. I think I'm all set. The program is installed and I seem to have succeeded in doing the whole operation without installing the two non-essential programs that I didn't want.

The download process is somewhat different than previous versions, as it is actually a download manager for Adobe, instead of a stand-alone executeable for the reader. You have to pay atention during the download, as it includes the Google tool bar, and another Adobe product, which you can opt out of.
