Answer: I have a computer with multiple user accounts. I'm the only one who uses JAWS. Is there a way I can have JAWS automatically disabled for the other users who don't need it, but have it run for me? Other Details: In Windows 2000 and XP, when JAWS is set to Automatically Start JAWS, the program normally is loaded before the user accounts list is displayed. This list allows each individual user to start the system with his or her own set of defaults, e-mail profile, and so on. Do the following to disable JAWS when another user who doesn't use JAWS chooses their account from this list: Note: These steps should be followed for each individual account. It will be necessary to log into each account and repeat this process. Do not do this for the account(s) that will be using JAWS or JAWS will have to be manually restarted when the system is running. Download the following JStop.exe file and save it on your computer in any any folder that all users will access. One good candidate is the Windows system32 folder and that location is assumed for purposes of the rest of this document: ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/Tools/JStop.exe Press the WINDOWS KEY to open the Windows Start Menu. Press P to open the Programs menu. Press S until you hear "Startup submenu." Press the APPLICATION KEY, use the arrow keys to move to Open, and press ENTER. When the dialog opens, press the APPLICATION KEY again and use the arrow keys to move to New. Press the RIGHT ARROW key to open the submenu. Use the arrow keys to move to Shortcut and press ENTER In the Create Shortcut wizard, first type the location of the JStop.exe file. In this example, you would type C:\windows\system32\JStop.exe (place file here for Windows XP) C:\WINNT\system32\JStop.exe (place file here for Windows 2000) Press the TAB key to move to the "Next" button and press the SPACEBAR. In the following dialog, enter a convenient name for the shortcut. Something like "Stop JAWS" is fine. Press the TAB key to move to the "Finish" button and press the SPACEBAR. Notes: - If after you install the file and reboot you get a prompt asking if you really want to run the file, clear the checkbox and choose YES so that the file doesn't prompt you every time it needs to run. - It might not always be necessary to log into each account if you have administrative rights and can get to c:\Documents and Settings\Username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. If you can do this, simply drop the file into the startup submenu for each account. This will eliminate the need to log back in every time you need to add the shortcut. - If you ever need to remove this shortcut so that JAWS will run for all users, repeat steps 1 through 6. Select the shortcut, press the DELETE key, and reply Yes to the prompt. The shortcut is deleted. -----Original Message----- .From: "KERRYANN IFILL"<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> .Sent: 2/9/07 3:41:05 PM .To: "[email protected]"<[email protected]> .Subject: [JAWS-Users] possibility . . .Hi David and others, . .A thought occured to me. A couple weeks ago, one of the .listers was asking whether there was a way he could get .jfw to come back up when his wife logged off the system. .Earlier this week, you shared some scripts with me for .using different synthesisers and then Carla asked about .different jfw settings for different user accoutns. .Here's my question, .How possible do you think it would be to have the "no .speech" feature activated in one account and when that .person logged off, jfw would revert to the default .settings with speech. .What do you think? . .Kerry . . --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list%40googlegroups.com/ Address to contact the management team: [EMAIL PROTECTED] You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JAWS Users List" group.
