Hi Steve, thanks for your help. I'll try your instructions out when I am back at work on Friday. I haven't been into that startup section of the programs menu for a while. Forgot what was in there. One more question though, do I also need to check the item which says "run Jaws from the system trey"? Or does that make it run as an application? On my home desktop, I have Jaws checked to run automatically at start up. I also have Jaws as an option when I press tab, or shift tab. I don't have it checked to run from the system trey. Does this mean I have Jaws running as a service, or as an application on my home desktop? I have forgotten what the difference between the two is? thanks for your help Jason ----- Original Message ----- From: "Griffiths, Steve" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2007 5:09 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws reading log-in screens
Jason, You need to have JAWS running as a service. The way to do that is to go to the JAWS window, open the Options menu and choose Basics. On that dialogue, check the "Automatically start JAWS" checkbox and OK out of the dialogue. If JAWS has been put in the StartUp section of the Programs submenu of the Start menu, delete it from there. The next time the PC starts, you should find the logon screen reads. At work, They use a log-in screen to get into the system. Jaws doesn't read this screen. I therefore have a not so fun time trying to log in. I think I remember someone else on the list having a similar issue. If I remember correctly, I think the solution was having Jaws run as a service. Or was it the other way round i.e have Jaws run as an application? Am I on the right track? If so, how do you choose how Jaws runs? If I am wrong, is there a solution to my problem? I will be using Jaws Pro 8.0 at work, on a desktop running Windows XP Pro.
