Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: forms mode question

Hi Lisa:

This is a very common problem encountered by screen reader users, if the
form is not coded with the proper HTML labeling techniques.

What I usually do when I come across these issues with any web site that I
find difficult or cumbersome to use:

Find the link to send feedback or contact the webmaster. I then pen a
polite message, explaining to the webmaster that I am a blind user,
accessing their site using a screen reader. I describe the problem(s) that
I encountered on their site and suggest possible ways to eliminate the
problem for future screen reader users. I also include a link to the
w3c.org site, which is a fantastic resource for web developers who want to
ensure that their sites are accessible.

I also offer any assistance that I can provide in testing the changes that
they might make to improve the situation. Most of the time, I get no
response, but on rare occasions, I do get a reply, stating that they never
considered that a blind person would be accessing their site and that they
will make every effort to make the suggested changes. Those messages make
me feel good. In any case, I believe that the more of us who take the time
to let web site owners know that screen reader users are using their sites,
the more likely the chance that they will take accessibility and usability
into consideration when making changes to their site.

John

  Subject: [JAWS-Users] forms mode question

  Hello everyone,
I was on the bmg music web site, and I wanted to fill out the form to join
the club. I went into forms mode so that I could type the information into
the edit boxes. For example where I needed to type in my first name jaws
just says edit. I tabbed through all of the edit boxes and it just says
edit. I went out of forms mode and looked around on the page, and then jaws
would read first name, last name, mailing address etc. It is very
frustrating to have to go in and out of forms mode just to get something
filled out. Is there any way to get jaws to read this information while I'm
in forms mode? I hope I have explained this well enough, so you all will
understand what I'm trying too do. I am running jaws 6.0, and I have
windows XP home. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
  Take care,
  Lisa
