Hi:

Unfortunately, this is not as easy as it used to be in win 95, 98 and ME where
there was a key
mapping utility included.

In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, this must be done either through a third party
mapping utility or by
editing the registry.

You will have to Map the right ctrl-key (code E0 1D) to the left windows key
(E0 5B)

**I think the easiest solution is to purchase an External USB keyboard for your
laptop.

However, if you want to try to map a key to be the windows key below is how.

The scan code mappings for Windows 2K and XP are stored in the following
registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout

IMPORTANT: There is also a Keyboard Layouts key under the Control key, but that
key should not be
modified.

In the Keyboard Layout key, the Scancode Map value must be added. This value is
of type REG_BINARY.

To make the Alt key to remap to become a Windows key. Here is how to do it:

Copy the below lines in note pad, and save it as a text file and rename it to
something like,
"altEquilsWinKey.reg". Then enter on it and answer yes when asked if you want
to import it into your
registry.

Start copying below:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]

"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,5B,E0,38,E0,00,00,00,00

End copying.

Now save it and give it the extension of .reg.

Once the map is stored in the registry, a system reboot is required to activate
it. The mappings
stored in the registry work at system level and apply to all users. These
mappings cannot be set to
work differently depending on the current user.

Below is a web page with a list of Keyboard Scan Codes for and Windows XP.

Hi,

Do you know a way to do this on a notebook computer which does not have a
Windows key?

Thanks.
