In all probability, yes! By replacing his speakers he essentially did the same procedure that I used in order to locate the problem. I just unplugged and re-connected the speakers and it started talking normally. I am convinced that the problem is with my sound card. One thing your friend could do is, assuming it is a separet card, would be to remove and reseat the card. It also could be a dirty or loose connection. Not a big problem to replace if I have too. I just need some sighted help to activate the on board sound card. It was turned off in the system bios. It quite possibly still could be with my mother board, will not know that until I switch sound cards. I think I have another sound card from an old computer. Just hope the problem is with the sound card. At least I know where the problem is that is hardware as opposed to software. Funny, for many years when I was a systems analysts I would first look at hardware for intermittent problems. For a few months I have been blaming software for the problems, specifically spyware. The problem almost always happens when jaws is unloaded for a few hours then reloaded. Lenny
