For kids, I think it's important for them to know the keyboard fully. I would teach them numbers on the horizontal number row first. That comes from old typing lessons I know, but it would be good for them to know it I think. Eventually, they can learn both and choose for themselves which they like best. But at least they can learn jaws with the number pad before deciding which is the best number way for them.
