Hi Rick:
I agree, usually I will just purchase a retail copy of the OS and slip stream
SP2 and all updates and make a bootable CD and reinstall with the disk I made
from the retail disk I bought and just forget the restore disks. Way to much
advertising programs that are either trial versions or crippled versions just
because computer companies get kick backs for including these programs in hopes
people will purchase the full version or pay for them when the trial limit
expires.
It's shameless advertising I think. When I pay for a computer, I'm not paying
for other companies to advertise their programs on my personal computer.
As much as computers cost I don't think they need extra money from software
maker to advertise their products without asking the purchaser first.
In addition, uninstalling them can leave behind lots of junk in the registry as
many programs do not uninstall properly. Grrrrrrr
Respectfully,
Terrill Reynolds

Hi Terrill,
I'm with you on that, and here's the other nice thing.
In most situations anymore, you don't get an operating system disk, but
instead a set of recovery cd's, or dvd.
So when it becomes necessary to reformat the drive, you get to put all of
that stuff back.
This is where a image of the drive sure would come in handy. smile

Hi:
That's what I hate about computers that come with their own disks. I always
remove all the extra programs they put on a commercial computer. Most if
not all are programs that are only trial versions that time out and then ask
you to purchase them, or only striped down versions of the program.
In most cases other third party programs that do the same thing work better
and are more usable with jaws.
I would uninstall all of them except for anything like dell diagnostics
programs or check for dell updates.
HTH
Best wishes,
Terrill Reynolds

Hello Larry and all,

You brought up an interesting question for me. I have a Dell Desk top
and it came with all the bells and whistle.

I think that I still have those demo programs since day one (2004)
and I am wondering what ones you got rid of?

I keep coming across programs that I never use, but I am a little
concern whether I should uninstall them or just leave them alone
taking up valuable disk space.

Please let me know which ones you got rid of.

Thanks in advance,

Lennie
