Unless I'm missing something, could you not use Winamp to play your podcasts? They're just plain MP3 files, so you could go for a better and keyboard friendly alternative like Winamp. No offence, but I personally don't like WMP due to the complex interface and "nonsense" keyboard shortcuts. With Winamp most keyboard shortcuts are just single keys.
