That slider moves 1/20th of the file back or 1/20th of it forward with each
press of the left-arrow or right-arrow key respectively. (It's in the Now
Playing menu, and some of the library settings. Hit ctrl+tab or go to the
Play Menu to activate it.) I like WMP, particularly the facility (in the
now playing menu) to increase the speed/rate of a recorded stream (a podcast
or other mp3 file), without altering pitch. In some cases you can double
the speed and still be able to clearly understand speech. The Winamp
Pacemaker plug-in, for that purpose, tends to be buggy.

In addition, David bailes <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> has made available for
reading or download his tutorial for Windows media Player 11:

there's a Jaws guide for WMP 11 which includes
adjustments which make it easy to use the library with
a screen reader:

If the material is broken into tracks, you can go forward by using the
control+F command, and go backward by the control+b. When the sound is
playing, use the control+p to pause, and hitting it a second time will
resume playing. This will avoid restarting at the beginning of the file
every time after you've used the control+s to stop.

If the podcast isn't separated into tracks, tab around until you hear a
slider control that reads a percent. If you're focused on that, right arrow
will jump you ahead, and left back. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to
adjust the increment for the jump, so you can move rather large distances
when often you'd rather go back just a little bit.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] how do you fast forward and rewind in windows media
player

Hi list, I am having a problem with windows media player. I am trying to
work out how to pause, fast forward and rewind when listening to something
with windows media player on my desktop. For example, I like to listen to
podcasts such as that on Blind Cool tech etc. I sometimes listen to these
several times, especially those which give instructional information I want
to follow. I did an incert H to look at the hot keys for the program. Using
alt S will stop the podcast. Alt P will start playing it again. However, it
starts from the start of the podcast. If I have already listened to the
podcast before, I may want to skip forward to the secttion I want. Using the
hotkey of alt F doesn't seem to do anything. Does anyone know what I am
doing wrong? Being able to pause, fast forward and rewind, will be very
handy when trying to follow David's very helpfull tutorials. At moment, I
often use a hand recorder to do the job. I am using windows XP home, Jaws 8
Pro and windows media 10 I
think it is, but not sure.
thanks a lot
Jason
