I have found the screen layout helpful when I am trying to get an
understanding of how a web page is layed out. When I am teaching sighted
students who use that crazy thing called a mouse, I have to be able to tell
them where to look on the screen.

Yes, I agree. I don't like the screen layout mode. I don't really know why
they introduced it; maybe it's for Braille users.

To change how JAWS renders a web page press Insert + V to open the verbosity
settings dialog.
Press D to go to the document presentation. It should be in simple layout.
Press the space bar to change it to screen layout.
tab to the close button.

You should now be in screen layout mode. I find this version more difficult
to navigate.
This is just a temporary change. It will reset to simple layout the next
time you open IE.
 Good luck

I occasionally get posts with instructions to find boxes etc. on
either the left or right side of a screen on a website. Is there a uniform
way that Jaws displays screens, and is it possible to navigate around a
screen using Jaws the way you might with a mouse?

Thanks for any enlightenment.
