If Expand Acronyms is by default off, which it is, then there must be good
reasons for that choice. (The following applies to versions of JAWS past
6.0. -- I'm not sure about 6.0 itself. There is another, better, way to
achieve what you're trying. Instead of going into the Configuration manager
and making the change globally for all Web pages, with your browser opened
you can change or reset additional verbosity settings in the Personal
Settings dialogue (JAWSKey+shift+v). Amongst these settings which you arrow
down to is the Expand Acronym checkbox. You'd toggle it on/off with the
spacebar, as per usual.) Could you give an example of the beneficial
effects you've observed from having made this change, and a page where it's
noticeable?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Web Pages and Acronyms

All,

This is kind of a survey, so just hit delete if you don’t want to be
bothered.
I am helping our Web Page designers make sure that the page they are
building works with JAWS. I was wondering how many or you have expand
acronyms turned on in your JAWS configuration manager. It appears this
needs to be on for JAWS to read the best on the edit fields.
If you would like to check and see if this option is on or off, do the
following.
1 Press insert F2 to run the JAWS Manager.
2 Arrow down to JAWS Configuration Manager and press enter.
3 Press ALT S for the settings Menu.
4 Arrow down to HTML Options and press enter.
5 Arrow down to Expand Acronyms. The check box is probably not checked. It
seems that is the default for this setting.
So how many have this box checked? Do you think a line of text prior to the
edit fields on the page stating for best results to have this option checked
would be helpful?

I did not have this option checked and it took us a little work to figure
out why JAWS was not reading the labels the way the web designers wrote
them. Even without having the option checked, it is not hard to navigate
the page. I am very pleased that we are making the effort to make sure our
external Web Site is going to be easy for everyone to navigate and use.

Thankss,
